There’s an on line class coming up through the Center for Progressive Renewal, a UCC affiliated para-church organization for leadership education. This one is focused on churches transitioning to part time pastoral leadership. It starts August 25, 2011 and runs Thursday nights.
Somebody I read recently asserted that churches will not survive long on part time leadership, and that may be true of some churches. But in other cases, a congregation may be able to thrive with a strong base of lay leadership bolstered by part time clerical staff.
What has been your experience? Can a church be vital with part time pastoral leadership? Or is it always the beginning of the end?
I have not participated in CPR events, so if you participate, please let me know how it goes for you!
